Adding your first monitor
Adding a monitor takes less than a minute. From your dashboard, click Add Monitor to open the monitor form.
Step 1 — Choose a monitor type
Select the type of check you want to run. If you are monitoring a website or API, choose HTTP or HTTPS. See the Monitor Types section for a full explanation of each option.
Step 2 — Enter the target
Enter the URL, hostname, or IP address you want to monitor. For HTTP and HTTPS monitors, include the full URL — for example, https://yourwebsite.com or https://api.yourapp.com/health.
Step 3 — Give it a name
Enter a friendly name so you can identify this monitor at a glance on your dashboard — for example, Production Website or Payment API.
Step 4 — Set up alerts (optional)
Enter an email address, Slack webhook URL, or phone number to receive alerts when this monitor goes down. You can also enable Recovery notifications to be notified when the service comes back up.
Step 5 — Save
Click Save monitor. The monitor appears on your dashboard immediately and the first check runs within 30 seconds. The status will show UNKNOWN briefly until the first result comes in, then change to UP or DOWN.
